Martin Sanders-Hewett was born in Essex and won an Open Exhibition to Trinity College, Cambridge. After graduating in Music and winning a prize for pianoforte playing he went to study at the University of London and the Royal College of Music. In 1979 he was appointed to the music staff of The Sandon School, Chelmsford, and since 1986 has held the post of lecturer in Music at North Hertfordshire College, where he directs the Preparatory Music Course. He has studied the pianoforte with Harold Parker, Peter Katin, Peter Element and David Parkhouse and pursues a busy schedule as teacher and performer. His previous solo engagement with Hitchin Concert Orchestra was a performance in the orchestra’s diamond jubilee concert of 1989 of The Rio Grande by Constant Lambert. (December 1994)
